Letter from the Parish Chair

Parish Council Elections - 2009

The new constitution, adopted at our last AGM, to align us with the other Antiochian Orthodox parishes in Australasia, has a more formal system of election than we have used in the past. Elections should be held bi-annually and we are now preparing for ours. We need to elect a Chairman, or woman, a Secretary, a Treasurer and 2 ordinary members of the council.

The election procedure is:

  1. An electoral roll needs to be prepared of all Parish members
  2. Nominations for the Parish Council will be called for at least one month and not more than 6 weeks before an election. These must be in writing and signed by both the Nominee and the proposer, both of whom must be on the electoral roll. There is also a process for objecting to these.
  3. Elections will then be held by secret ballot, for contested positions, during our Annual General Meeting

The AGM will be held on Sunday 20 September at St Michaels following Divine Liturgy, beginning at approximately 11.30 a.m.

Nominations for the above listed positions are now being called for (download nomination form). Nominations will close on Sunday 6 September. Anyone on the parish roll can nominate another person from the roll, with their agreement, for any position. You can post in the completed form, or forms and a box for depositing the completed forms will be provided at church from Sunday 16 August.

If you would like to check that you are on this roll or do not want to be included on the roll, please phone Alice Baird (Chairperson) on 03 486 1032.
